Campat (Alemtuzumab)

Campath is a monoclonal antibody that is directed against a specific cell surface protein, CD52 which is expressed on the surface of normal and malignant lymphoid cells. This drug is used in treatment of patients with CLL who have previously failed other treatments. It is also used as part of bone marrow transplantation procedure in similar patients.

Side Effects:

Following are some of the most common and significant ill effects:

Low white blood counts
Low platelet count
Anemia
Campath, by way destroying immune cells, makes patients prone to develop serious infections.
Serious reactions while drug is being infused.

It is imperative that a patient relay any side effects or problems to his/her medical oncologist.
