Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is a rather new method of destroying cancer tissues. This method uses Liquid Nitrogen. Air is composed of 80% Nitrogen gas and 20% Oxygen. Under high pressure, gases change form and become liquid. This process is associated with release of heat. The reverse process happens when the liquid gas evaporates and a high degree of chilling effect is generated. When liquid nitrogen evaporates, it creates a low temperatures of -320 F. At this temperature, every living tissue will freeze.

In treatment of the cancer, liquid nitrogen is applied to the cancer tissue, causing the tissue to freeze. The water molecules inside the cells transform into ice, which occupies a bigger space, resulting in cell damage. After a short period of time, the tissue will warm up. During this process of freezing and thawing of tissues, cells are damaged and killed. To enhance the efficacy of Cryotherapy, the freezing of tissues can be repeated a few times.
