Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) The Central Nervous System (CNS) is composed of brain and spinal cord, both of which are covered by a protective layer. The space between this layer and brain and spinal cord is filled with a fluid which is called Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF). Examination of this fluid can give insight into certain illnesses which involve this space. This is achieved by the procedure of Spinal Tap. The fluid is crystal clear and colorless. Under certain circumstances, medications may be injected into this fluid. This is commonly done for patients with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemias, or those with other forms of cancer that spread to this space. |
