Cost of Genetics Counseling and Testing

Cost of Genetic counseling can be broken down as follows:

Physician fees: Which can vary from one office to the other. The fee for the initial visit can be higher than the subsequent visits.  Some of this cost may be covered by the insurance companies.   You should not expect for all offices to accept your insurance coverage.  In our office, we charge $250.00 for the first visit and $150.00 for each subsequent visits.   We do not accept insurance payments and individuals are expected to make payments on the day of visit.  We produce a receipt for the individuals, which they can submit to the insurance companies.  We also offer our services by phone at the same rates.   We require the medical records be sent to us for review first.

Laboratory Fees:  For performing the specific test.  This can vary from one laboratory to the other, ranging from $500.00 to a few thousand dollars, depending on the complexity of tests that may be needed. 

Treatment Options: Treatment and the recommended interventions, may or may not be covered by the insurance companies. You have to speak with the respective insurance companies for their consideration of making payments for the treatments.  Performing bilateral mastectomies may cost as much as $20,000.00.

More and more, insurance companies are accepting to pay for these costs.
