MUGA Scan

This is an x-ray study that is performed in a radiology office or at a hospital. Patients are given an intravenous injection of a small amount of a radioactive material that travels in the blood and reaches the heart. . Subsequently, a camera takes special images. These images are then analyzed by a computer and studied by a radiologist.

MUGA scan is a sensitive test to evaluate the heart and its function.  It is mostly used prior to administration of drugs that can harm the heart.
