Neurolytic Celiac Plexus Block (NCPB)

Most pancreatic cancer pain is transmitted to the central nervous system via the Celiac Plexus, a complex nervous structure that is located in the back of abdomen and against the spine.  NCPB involves a procedure to paralyze the Celiac Plexus and prevent the transmission of pain signals to brain.   This procedure, although very effective, is used very uncommonly.  The physician performing this procedure injects a chemical into this nervous structure to paralyze it.  Procedure is performed under CT Scan guidance very much like an FNA.
