Eloxatin (oxaliplatin)

Oxaliplatin is given by intravenous route only and is used in treatment of colon and rectal cancer.  This drug by itself has very minimal activity and is always used in combination with 5-FU (Flurouracil) and  Leucovorin, in a combination known as FOLFOX regimen. 

Side Effects:

Following are some of the most common and significant ill effects: 

• Low white blood counts

• Low platelet count

• Anemia

• Hair Loss

• Nausea

• Diarrhea

• Nerve damage

It is imperative that a patient relay any side effects or problems to his/her medical oncologist.
