OxyContin (Oxycodone)
OxyContin is one of the newer pain medications. It is most appropriate for patients who suffer from moderate pain. This drug is a long acting pain reliever and can be taken every 12 hours as opposed to Codeine, which has short life span in human body. There is no maximum dose for OxyContin and it can be increased to as much as is needed and as long as it is tolerated by the patient. The analgesic effect starts within one hour of consumption. The tablets should be swallowed whole, and are not to be broken, chewed or crushed. Side effects: This drug has some serious side effects. The degree of side effect depends on the amount consumed.
