Polyposis

Polyposis refers to a condition that is associated with presence of multiple polyps in the bowels.  Large bowel is in most instances involved with this condition and there is a possibility of developing colon cancer in the polyps.  There are certain hereditary and familial polyposis syndromes that are associated with a very high risk of developing cancer and in addition, there are non-familial polyposis syndromes that may also be linked to higher cancer risk.  Polyps are best seen via Colonoscopy, whereby they can also be biopsied. Some polyposis syndromes are linked to other cancers as well.  These cancers may occur in variety of body organs.
