Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation (TENS) TENS is an old method of pain control, applying a low voltage electric current to the area where pain is localized to. TENS has a tendency to stimulate the nerve supplies in the region, thereby causing a false feeling of neural stimulation from the area of pain. This device is used in conjunction with other pain control medications and is usually helpful in localized pain within a limited area that is near the surface of skin. |
