Velcade (bortezomib)

Velcade was approved by FDA in 2003 as a new and effective medicine in treatment of Multiple Myeloma.  Velcade is a third line treatment for Myeloma, i.e. it is used in individuals who have failed to respond to two other types of chemotherapy combinations.  Velcade blocks the activity of proteasomes which are enzymes that play a role in regulating cell function and growth. . This blockade may lead to death of Myeloma cells.
