Gliadel Implantable Wafers

GLIADEL wafer is indicated for treatment of Glioblastoma Multiforme. This medicinal device contains Carmustine ( BiCNU) which is chemotherapy drug, with efficacy against brain tumors. The wafer is made of biodegradable material and in gradually absorbed by the tumor tissue. The wafer is placed inside adjacent to the site where the tumor tissue has been removed from Brain. This procedure is performed by a Neuro-Surgeon. Up to eight wafers, each counting 7.7 milligram of active ingredient are placed. Studies have shown that this method of treatment may prolong survival of patients.

Side effects:

• Seizures

• Swelling of brain tissue

• Infections at the site of surgery

• Healing problems with the wound of surgery
